Tax Reporting on Novig — 1099s, Trading History & More

Novig issues 1099-MISC forms to users who meet the IRS reporting threshold. You will receive a 1099-MISC if both of the following are true:

  1. Your total redemptions for the calendar year were $2000 or more

  2. Your net redemptions (total redemptions minus total purchases) were greater than $0

Both conditions must be met. Forms are sent in the first two weeks of February for the prior tax year.

Why didn't I receive a 1099?

You may not have received one because either your total redemptions were under $2000, or your net redemptions (redemptions minus purchases) were $0 or less. Both thresholds must be exceeded for Novig to issue a 1099-MISC.

What does the 1099-MISC report?

It reports your net redemptions — total amount redeemed minus total amount purchased. This is the standard reporting method for sweepstakes platforms. This may differ from your total balance or what you think of as your "winnings."

How do I access my 1099?

Your 1099-MISC is sent by email and physical mail to the addresses on file with your Novig account. You may be asked to confirm your SSN to view it — this is a standard security verification step.

The amount on my 1099 seems wrong. What should I do?

Keep in mind that the 1099 reports net redemptions, not net trading profit. Promotional credits, bonus Novig Cash, and voided transactions may be treated differently for tax purposes. First, review your full transaction history in the app (tap the Account icon → Transactions tab). If you still believe the amount is incorrect, reach out through Live Chat with the amount shown on your 1099, your calculated amount, and the specific transactions you believe are causing the discrepancy. The address on my 1099 is wrong. Do I need a corrected form?

No. An incorrect address does not affect the validity of your 1099 for tax filing purposes. You do not need a corrected form solely for an address error.

How do I request a trading history statement?

Reach out through Live Chat with the time period you need (e.g., "January 1 – December 31, 2025"). Our team processes trading history requests within 1–2 business days. For recent activity, you can also view your transactions directly in the app.

I never had a Novig account but received a 1099. What should I do?

Why does Novig need my SSN?

Novig collects the last 4 digits of your SSN for identity verification and to comply with AML (anti-money laundering) and other legal/regulatory requirements. It is a standard requirement for sweepstakes platforms.
